Paris Saint-Germain are in the market for a world-class forward to join Edinson Cavani at the Parc des Princes, with Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero at the top of the French giants' summer transfer wishlist.
PSG boss Unai Emery has already added Julian Draxler, Goncalo Guedes and Giovani Lo Celso to his squad but a summer move for one of Alexis or Aguero remains likely as the Parisiens set their sights on becoming one of Europe’s best.
Aguero, who has a contract with City until 2020, admitted to journalists on Sunday that his days at the Premier League title challengers could be numbered as he is unsure whether the club will want to keep him beyond the summer.
“Yeah, fine, normal,” he said of his current situation. “Sometimes this happens. When you’re on the bench you have to wait for your opportunity. I have three months to do my best and try to help the team and we’ll see what happens with my future.”
City remain adamant that Aguero is going nowhere but his latest comments will surely encourage PSG, who have been in contact with the striker's entourage since October.
Emery’s men boast the economic firepower to offer him a lucrative package and it is believed they are exploring the exact structure of his current deal at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Arsenal’s talismanic Alexis is likely to be the priority of PSG sporting director Patrick Kluivert this summer.
The 28-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer of 2018 and his representative remains in contract talks with the Gunners over a new deal.
Alexis has contributed to 23 Premier League goals this season (15 goals, 8 assists) - more than any other player - and his situation is being monitored by the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Inter.
It’s expected that ambition will play a key part in the Chilean’s decision to sign a new contract and how successful a season Arsenal have is likely to affect whether he stays in north London in the long term.
PSG are prepared to offer Alexis an exciting financial package with Kluivert keen on bringing in another big-name player after the January acquisition of Draxler from Wolfsburg.
