Members of the legislative arm of government in Ogun State have been charged to rededicate themselves to the promotion of good governance through the initiation of relevant legislation that will impact positively on their constituencies.

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Surajudeen Ishola Adekunbi, gave the charge while declaring open a two-day training for members of the state legislature at the Olusegun Obasanjo presidential library, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi disclosed that the essence of the training was to equip the newly elected lawmakers with basic skills required to legislate for good government and quality service delivery for the people of the state.
He added that this would help them clarify their roles and responsibilities in fostering collaboration between the executive and legislative branches.
The speaker noted that lawmakers are expected to adopt relevant legislative process to promote overall development of their constituents.
Adekumbi pointed out that the success of the ongoing ‘Rebuilding Mission’ of the state government depended on people-oriented legislation put in place by the lawmakers.
He encouraged his colleagues to always promote peace and continue to adopt conflict resolution mechanisms in all their dealings, positing that there was need to provide opportunities for networking, peer learning and partnership, to achieve success in legislative business.
Earlier in her welcome address, the resident representative of Konrad Adenauer Stifting , the partnering organising agency for the training, Hildegard Behnendt-Kigozi, said that the training would equip the legislators to function effectively in all their parliamentary proceedings and processes.
In his presentation, one of the resource persons and the clerk, Plateau State House of Assembly, Barrister Ayuba Gondu, implored the lawmakers to always adopt the two essential legislative mechanisms that include motion passed resolution and bill passed into law to improve the lives of their constituents.
Gondu, however, cautioned the lawmakers to always ensure that whatever motion passed into resolution, should take into consideration its practicability in terms of socio-economic requirements and ability to meet the accruable financial burden on the executive arm of government.
